Information for Sponsors
The Coonamble Show society has a proud tradition dating back to 1883, when three local landholders met and decided to hold the first agricultural show. The Show has been an eagerly awaited feature on the calendar ever since. In 1983,”The Show Goes On” was published to celebrate 100 years of hard work and foresight by generations of committees. The book chronicles the evolution of the show from a week of festivity for the early settlers, through the appearance of the motor car to more recent times as a busy two day event, encompassing local art and craft, equestrian competition and the Royal Miss Showgirl.
Over the years agricultural practices have changed, and the program has reflected this. While still a major feature, sheep and cattle entries have reduced as the district focus has shifted to grain production. Consequently, the show runs a field wheat competition as well as a local crop competition to highlight the best and most efficient local producers. Focus has shifted from a purely agricultural point of view, to a proud showcase of everything the district has to offer. Residents, local businesses, schools and community groups each have the opportunity to display produce, merchandise, art, craft, hobbies and ideas.
The strength of the Coonamble Show, and hence the value to sponsors, lies in the economic strength of the district. Covering 10000 square km of prime agricultural land and supporting a population of 4300, Coonamble is a centre on the move. It plays a critical role in the production and distribution of thousands of tonnes of grain each year, as well as the turnover of millions of dollars worth of chemical, fertilizer, fuel and other merchandise. The shire is also renown for its merinos, prime lambs, steers and breeding cattle coming off some of the best breeding and fattening country in Australia.
Pivotal to the success of the show is the local shire Council which has built a new show pavilion with first class facilities. Further work is being carried out on the arena and plans are underway to redevelop the neighbouring rodeo arena and surrounds. This is a huge boost for our horse program which has always been heavily supported from local and interstate competitors. Riders compete in over 400 events over two days and it is the strength of the horse program which underpins the show. The show committee’s aim is not only to promote our excellent stock and produce, but to provide a safe environment for competition, an enjoyable experience for families, and to encourage the education of visitors to the benefits of living in rural Australia.
In recent years we have extended our program to include Yard Dog Trials (2012) and Cattle Dog Trials (2014) both of which have been well supported with over 100 nominations for the Cattle Dog Trials in it's first year. The Coonamble Show is one of the few places in the Central West where you can see both the Yard Dog and Cattle Dog Trials together. In the near future we expect that these will extend to 3 day formats.
2014 also saw the start of a major photographic competition- "Showing The Connection". The aim of the competition is to celebrate the connection between agriculture and the end consumer, raising the awareness of the critical link that all Australians have with farmers. Total prize money for the inaugural competition was over $1,700 with the winning entries exhibited at Outback Arts, Coonamble and Two Eight Two Eight, Gulargambone. Over the next few years we hope to develop this competition into a nationally recognised event and extend exhibits to regional centres and capital cities.
Our committee is energetic and eager to help you achieve exposure and value for your sponsorship dollar and have developed a set of sponsorship packages with this in mind.We are also happy to tailor a package to your needs.
